Ram’s 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger introduces a unique approach to range and charging that sets it apart from other electric vehicles (EVs). The Ramcharger features a dual-motor setup paired with a 70.8kWh battery, giving it a respectable pure electric range of 233km. However, the Ramcharger’s real innovation lies in its 3.6-liter V6 engine, which serves as an onboard generator. This engine can be used to charge the batteries when they are running low, giving the Ramcharger an impressive total range of 1110km on a full tank and charge.
Liberated from Charging Anxiety
The Ramcharger’s unique range extender setup liberates owners from the anxiety of frequent charging stops on long journeys. Even on extended road trips, as long as the battery is charged at home, a fuel station visit is not necessary. However, for trips that exceed the battery’s range, the Ramcharger can easily replenish its batteries at DC fast chargers or Tesla’s Superchargers, which are equipped with the CCS port.
A Compelling Competitor to the Ford F-150 Lightning
The Ram 1500 Ramcharger stands out in the electric truck landscape and is poised to be a compelling competitor to the Ford F-150 Lightning. While the Ramcharger’s use of an internal combustion engine as a generator is its most unique feature, Stellantis, Ram’s parent company, has also announced a fully electric version of the truck called the Ram 1500 REV. This variant features an enormous 229kWh battery, promising an exceptional range of 804km on a single charge.
